After the visit to Porquerolles and the dinner in Saint Tropez, places with the best Cote d’Azur beaches, the next following day we visit better Cannes.

For this reason Diaries of an Explorer is going to tell you the things to do in Cannes, France: please keep in mind that it´s not a chart, but a list!
A walk along the Boulevard de la Croisette, with its beach clubs, discos and luxury hotels. Enjoy the charming atmosphere of the city during the night, meet models, see fast cars running. If you want to walk and relax or party until the morning light Cannes is the perfect place for both.
2) The picture at the Palais des Festivals, the star handprints, the red carpet;
3) The trip to the Isle Lerins and in particular the Isle Sainte-Marguerite;
But a real exploration means also going to off the beaten path places or areas:
4) Le Suquet
Le Suquet is the old medieval town upon the Mt. Chevalier with its castle. From the city centre you can walk along the steep Rue St-Antoine and get to the main gate of the castle with the Eglise Notre-Dame de Esperance, built in the 17th Century.
Once in the courtyard of the castle, you can can choose two things: or visiting the Musee de la Castre (the Museum of the castle), that shows the history of the city and its surroudings, or enjoying the breathtaking landscapes like this:

The old fortification system contained also the Iron Mask Tower, or Tour du Masque de Fer.
5) Rue Meynadier:
This street is the centre of a really nice area of Cannes, a network of narrow streets that seems to be far from the luxurious Boulevard de la Croisette but it’s just a couple of hundreds meters far.
This street is ideal for people on the budget with its stores, clothing or souvenir shops, small authentic gourmet shops, bakeries where to taste great French sandwiches and much more.

At the end of the street you can find other pitoresque bars like this
and once arrived again to the Place Cornut Gentille, close to the Pantiero, you can see this building and thinking why Cannes is one of the most important cities in the world because of its famous film festival.

Other things to do in Cannes, France:
- Le Marché Forville, a closed market, a mixture of smells, sounds and colours;
- La Rue Hoche, the trendiest street, with restaurants and cafès, home decoration shops, hotels and fashion boutiques;
Recommendation: for vintage souvenirs, not the classic souvenir shop, I recommed you Villa Soleya, where to buy from vintage and artistic souvenirs to nice home decorations. It´s located in Rue Felix Faure 79, between the Promenade de la Pantiéro and Rue Meynadier. Do not miss it if you want to bring back home something different!

Where to sleep:
- Budget accomodation: Ibis Budget Cannes Mouans Sartoux, at 8 km from the city centre. Ideally it is better to go by car and reach the city centre of Cannes. Prices around 60 Euros per night per double/triple room. Breakfast available at 6,15 Euros per person. Alternatively, if you want to stay in the city, I would recommend the B&B Hotel Cannes La Bocca Plage, at 3 km from the city centre, bed & breakfast, with prices around 60 Euros per night per double room.
- Medium bugdet: Hotel L´Hotera, at just 200 meters from the Palais du Festival. Accomodation only, prices around 100 Euros per night per double room. Recommended.
- Luxury budget: Five Seas Hotel, at only 100 from the Palais du Festival and the beach of La Croisette. Prices from 350 Euros per room per night. Breakfast at 35 Euros per person per night. If you want a VIP experience, this is what is good for you.
Travel tips:
- A visit to Cannes, included a trip to Lerins Island, can last 2 or 3 days;
- Do not miss the nightlife or the charming atmosphere during the night;
- Explore the entire area between the station, Le Pantiero and La Croisette: Cannes will impress you with its different districts, less luxurious but more attractive: shops, restaurants, trendy bars and narrow streets with a particular atmosphere are waiting for your!
- Surroundings: Antibes, Nice, Saint Tropez and Saint Paul de Vence.
The next stop of the Cote d’Azur and Provence will be the enchanting Saint Paul de Vence, the small medieval village of art ateliers and painters!
