Being one of the best road trips ever made, the difference from the Swiss-German road trip was that we chose the Etap Hotel in Moauns- Sartoux, close to Cannes, as base to visit the entire Riviera. I have to say it was a good choice, as Cannes is a good starting point to explore the entire area.

Coming back to the final trip reports, Cannes, besides being a good base, is an impressive city: you can walk along the Boulevard de la Croisette and feel like a movie star, dance until the morning light or spend a fortune at the casino. However, it’s interesting as you can go the off the beaten tracks around Rue de Meynadier and discover a stunning atmosphere, small bars and restaurants, far from the luxurious Boulevard de la Croisette. Or you can reach the castle upon the hill ( Le Suquet area).

If you want to visit its surroundings, you can go to the Lerins Islands and in particular, the Isle Sainte-Marguerite, with its fort where the Man of the Iron Mask was imprisoned or with its nature ( nice parks and beaches).

Do not miss the beaches, in particular La Garoupe, but if you don\’t want to spend money you can look for some little and free sandy areas in Cap d’Antibes. After a relaxing day on the beach, it\s a pleasure to visit and discover the medieval Antibes, taste some delicious food, explore the old city or reach the Fort Carrè (do not do it during the night…you don’t see nothing).

Nature, beaches and wonderful sea, besides another fortress, are the features of Porquerolles, stunning Provencal island, with its white sand, ideal to rent a bike and enjoy the island. Saint Tropez was just the location of a dinner: it\’s not so cheap but its charm attracts any visitor or traveler.

Saint Paul de Vence is the ideal place if you love art, paintings and a medieval atmosphere. A small town that attracts 2 million of people every year. Get lost in its narrow streets, visit some little art shop and enjoy the landscape from its walls.

Monte Carlo has an interesting area around the Palais du Prince to visit and then the luxurious area of its port and casino.

Cote d’Azur and Provence are definitely an area for everyone: if you love art, tasty food, nature, wonderful sea, culture and visiting cities it\’s really worth a travel, even if you are on a budget ( not only for rich people).If I had more time I would have visited also some other places you can find in 10 wonders of Provence and Cote d’Azur, such as Cassis, Arles, Vallauris or Grand Canyon du Verdon, besides a “real exploration\” of Saint Tropez and its beaches.
