Luxembourg is for sure one of richest countries in the world and this is something you can see immediately once you stroll around its capital.
Anyway, during my visit to Luxembourg city, I could appreciate some monuments and also the landscape so that’s why i decided to list the things to do in Luxembourg in one day. I love the fact that the city dominates a landscape made by nature and hills. Ready to discover it?

First of all, I parked the car and then started to stroll around the city. But for of all you can admire the landscapes and the first palaces as soon as you access to the old medieval town.
Not far from that, you can see the external facade of the Grand-Ducal Palace, a 16th Century Flemish Renaissance. Unfortunately, the wonderful interior and the stairs can be visited exclusively during the summer. You can find more info about thathere.

Before going to the main attraction of the city, here you can see another beautiful buildings and palaces.
You can enjoy a nice landscape of the hills, gardens and also the old quarters.
Now it’s time to access the archaeological crypta and the casemates. The casemates were built to defend the city in case that the other fortifications would have been conquered in case of siege.
Once you get out the casemates you can stroll around the old quarters.

How to get there:
I went there by car and it was good since it is far just 250 km fromMaastricht (2 hours)
By train, since the central station is connected by the network of the high speed trains like TGV or ICE.
By plane, by landing in the international airport of Luxembourg, at just 6 km far from the city. The closest “low cost airports” are Frankfurt Hahn, Metz-Nancy andBrussels Charleroi
Travel tips:
It takes one day to visit the main attractions.
During the night, the city is quiet so it’s not a great destinations for party lovers.
Luxembourg City can be a good destination for a weekend and can be a good starting point to visit the surroundings
If you are into art, you can also visit the Philarmonie Luxembourg building and see a concert there and the Museum of Modern Art Grand-Duc Jean (MUDAM).
Luxembourg is not considered a top travel destination in Europe, but for sure an off the beaten path place to visit and I insert it in my list of off the beaten path Europe that you should do not miss.
